WAAX formed in Brisbane in June 2012 and has released three albums, two EPs and fourteen singles. The discography below runs from the first self-released EP to the 2026 album, and the live register collects the appearances that can be sourced, from the first BIGSOUND slot to a 2019 WAAX tour of North America that put the band on event listings across the United States. Nine musicians have been core members; only one has been there throughout.

  1. 2012

    Beginnings

WAAX forms in Brisbane in June 2012. Local rooms, a shifting line-up, and the first recordings that would become the Holy Sick EP.

  2. 2023

    The pause

A hiatus announced in April, farewell shows at The Triffid in June, and in November a return in a different shape, built around DeVita.

None of the six above is a physical object, and that is the point. This index holds no setlists, no laminates and no guitar picks; it holds the paper trail those things leave behind, which is the part that survives when the objects are dispersed and the part that can still be checked years later.

Collecting on a different scale turns the same instinct into an industry. The Hard Rock chain holds more than 86,000 pieces of music memorabilia, from signed guitars to touring costumes, and runs a New Jersey gambling operation alongside the hotels and venues; there is a Hard Rock Casino NJ online review of that side of it. The distance between a chain of that size and a register like this one is mostly a question of what each is trying to keep.

Is WAAX still an active band?

Yes. A hiatus was announced in April 2023 and the full line-up played farewell shows at The Triffid in Brisbane that June. In November 2023 the project returned around Maz DeVita, and a third album, Angel's Mess, followed on 13 March 2026.

How many albums have WAAX released?

Three studio albums: Big Grief in 2019, which reached number 11 on the ARIA chart, At Least I'm Free in 2022, which reached number 20, and Angel's Mess in 2026. There are also two EPs, Holy Sick and Wild & Weak, and fourteen singles.

Where are WAAX from?

Brisbane, Queensland. The band formed there in June 2012, won its Triple J Unearthed slot at BIGSOUND in the city in 2014, and played its 2023 farewell shows at The Triffid. Brisbane remains the centre of the live register.

Who has been in WAAX?

Nine musicians have been core members since 2012. Maz DeVita is the only constant. Tom Bloomfield played drums from the first line-up to 2023, and Ewan Birtwell played guitar and bass from 2013 to 2023. Five touring musicians play with the current project.

What does WAAX Index record?

The releases, the line-ups and the live appearances: seven releases between 2014 and 2026, nine core members since 2012, and twenty-one sourced appearances, each entry against a dated source.
